Eight different research, education, development and innovation organisations are involved in the GreenHub. Their strengths differ and this way GreenHub community represents diverse, professional and best knowledge within the green bioeconomy.
Business Joensuu operates in an area that consists of seven municipalities, 120,000 inhabitants, and 6,500 companies. The company offers services for launching companies, growth and internationalisation, investing and setting up operations, and facility and event services of the Joensuu Science Park. In addition, Business Joensuu produces growth and competitiveness programmes for different sectors, which create the best operating conditions for companies in the Joensuu area. We respond to customer needs in a timely manner, professionally and productively.
The European Forest Institute is an international organisation, established by European States. We conduct research and provide policy support on issues related to forests. We facilitate and stimulate forest-related networking and promote the dissemination of unbiased and policy-relevant information on forests and forestry. We also advocate for forest research and for the use of scientifically sound information as a basis for forest policies.
Finnish Environment Institute is a multidisciplinary research and expert institute. Our most important task is to solve society's most burning questions that have an impact on the environment. We are building a sustainable society. We provide necessary information, multidisciplinary expertise and expert services for public and private decision-making. We have some 700 competent experts and researchers. We work in close and stimulating co-operation with Finnish and international partners.
The path to a great future is paved with skills and expertise. Karelia University of Applied Sciences (Karelia UAS) is proud to be part of this development by training skilled professionals. Karelia UAS is a multidisciplinary, widely connected, international and innovative organisation offering education leading to bachelor and master degrees.
Researchers and specialists working in Natural Resources Institute provide new solutions towards the sustainable development of the Finnish bioeconomy and the promotion of new biobased businesses. Together with our partners we will build a society based on bioeconomy. Sustainable use of natural resources calls for advances in know-how and new business models – as well as close collaboration. We bring together experts in natural resources and sustainable food production. This makes us one of the most multi-disciplinary research institutes in our industry worldwide.
We organise vocational upper secondary, further vocational and specialist vocational qualifications, also liberal adult and summer university education. The Ministry of Culture and Education has awarded our organisation the Quality Award for Vocational Education in 2002, 2008, 2012 and 2016. Our area of operation covers the entire region of North Karelia formed by the 12 municipalities, the owners of Riveria. We have training centres in Joensuu (the capital of North Karelia), Kitee, Lieksa, Nurmes, Outokumpu and Valtimo. Annually we have around 15 000 students and about 740 staff.
The Finnish Forest Centre collects and shares information on Finnish forests. It advises forest owners on the management, use, and protection of forests. In addition, the Finnish Forest Centre monitors compliance with forest laws. The Finnish Forest Centre also promotes that forest-related industries are as diverse as possible and that their operations are profitable. The operations of the Finnish Forest Centre are directed and financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland. The Finnish Forest Centre provides up-to-date information on Finnish forests to support forest owners' decision-making.
